UE seeks a union representative to join our national staff for a public sector organizing assignment in North Carolina. The position involves internal organizing, local union leadership development, and public campaign support for public sector workers across North Carolina.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct worker outreach to organize new members in worksites across the state
- Lead one-on-one and group meetings with workers
- Identify and develop workplace leaders
- Motivate workers to take action
- Build union organizing committees capable of signing up hundreds of new members
- Maintain accurate information on worksite site and campaign activities
- With direction, develop campaign literature
- Work on mobilization campaigns to win public issue campaigns
- Developing and maintaining workplace leadership structures
- Training members, stewards, and rank -and-file local officers
- Assist members in Political Action at the City Council and State Legislature
- Assisting UE local unions with grievance handling
- Developing coalition and political action work
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Commitment to rank-and-file leadership development.
- Effective communication skills – listening, spoken, and written
- Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends
- Ability to maintain accurate information on worksite site and campaign activities
- Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision; must be well organized and self-motivated.
- Capacity to establish and cultivate relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
- A working vehicle and a valid drivers’ license
- Basic computer and writing skills
- A strong commitment to social justice.
- Experience as a union representative and/or organizer, or similar community organizing preferred.
The salary for this position is $66,020.22 as of December 1, 2025. Irregular hours, travel, and weekend work are an essential part of the job.
