Demand Trade That Helps Workers, Not Billionaires
Trade officials from the U.S., Mexico and Canada are preparing to meet and consider changes to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the successor agreement to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). UE is joining allies who are mobilizing across the continent to stand up for workers, family farmers, and communities; reject the race-to-the-bottom that pits people across borders against each other; and build solidarity across movements for good jobs, environmental protection, and economic justice.
UE ally Public Citizen is bringing together elected officials, policy makers, and labor and community leaders to talk honestly about what’s happening on the ground in communities impacted by trade policies like NAFTA and USMCA. UE Local 506 will be hosting the “Building a Fair Economy for All” tour in Erie, PA on June 17; other stops on the tour include Pittsburgh on May 26, Dayton, OH on May 27, and Chicago on June 15. These events will focus on manufacturing jobs, outsourcing, and building a worker-centered trade agenda.

UE has also endorsed the Days of Solidarity initiative, which is holding cross-border actions to demonstrate that solidarity across borders is the most effective way to fight the billionaires and corporations. The first Days of Solidarity cross-border action will be held on May 30 at Peace Arch Park in Blaine, Washington. Visit daysofsolidarity.org [2] for more information, or to RSVP.
