Local 222 Sublocals Hold the Line on Health Insurance

UE Local 222 has settled several contracts recently for Connecticut municipal workers, which contain no or minimal increases to healthcare costs. Norwich town workers will see no increase to their insurance for the life of the agreement, which will run from 2019-2022. Insurance for Wethersfield town workers will remain the same for all three years. Vernon dispatchers will see no increase in insurance cost share until the final three months of the three year contract, when it will increase modestly from 10% to 13%.

New Local 243 Contract Improves Benefits and Wages, Preserves Healthcare

The members of UE Local 243 ratified a new three-year contract at Sargent/Assa Abloy in March which increases wages, improves the pension and vision and dental plans, and preserves their healthcare.

The new contract provides for a $2800 lump sum check in year one, a three percent general wage increase in year two and a 2.5 percent wage increase in year three.

Local 228 and 808 Action Campaign Wins Healthcare Victory for Federal Contract Workers

On November 14, 2018 the members of UE Locals 228 and 808 won a massive victory when they secured a new health insurance agreement that reduces insurance premiums and lowers their out-of-pocket costs in 2019. The members of both locals are federal contractor employees who process immigration and travel documents for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. Department of State. The 900 members of Locals 228 and 808 are presently employed by the same mega-contractor, Pacific Architects and Engineers (PAE), which also employs members of UE Locals 1008 and 1118.

Local 1121 Hails Sweet Victory in Arbitration

In a stunning victory for UE members who work for Aramark, an arbitrator issued an Opinion and Award on January 14 that protected the employees’ bargained-for right to paid sick leave without being assessed no-fault attendance points for using them.

Since at least 2003, Aramark has enforced a no-fault attendance policy for the plant that was based on a point system. Under the policy, if employees called in sick they were assessed points and docked pay. Two points were assessed for a one day absence. Workers who accumulated eight points during a 12-week period were fired.

UE, Wabtec Reach Agreement to End Strike in Erie, PA

March 6, 2019

Wabtec and UE Locals 506 and 618 announced today that they have reached an agreement to end the strike at the Company’s Erie, Pennsylvania manufacturing facility.  This new agreement will remain in effect for 90 days and will allow the parties to continue negotiations for a long-term collective bargaining agreement with the assistance of Federal mediators.

Under the terms of the agreement, the parties agreed to:

UE Locals 506, 618 Strike "For the Jobs Our Communities Deserve" in Erie

February 26, 2019

1700 members of UE Locals 506 and 618 went on strike today to preserve decent wages and working conditions at the GE Transportation locomotive plant. Their new employer, Wabtec, took over the business on Monday and imposed "terms and conditions" that include mandatory overtime and arbitrary schedules, wage reductions of up to 38 percent for recalled and newly-hired workers, and the right to use temporary workers for up to 20 percent of the work in the plant.
