On September 29-30, delegates from across the Mountain State met here for the convention of UE Local 170, West Virginia Public Workers Union.
After settling for small wage increases in their last contract due to a downturn in their company’s business, UE Local 684 members were determined to make up for lost ground in their contract negotiations this year – and they did.
UE Local 684 members work for Electric Materials, formerly known as The Electric Materials Company (TEMCO). Electric Materials, a subsidiary of United Stars, Inc., manufactures custom copper products for the electrical equipment industry.
In the wake of Hurricane Florence, UE Local 150 has joined allies in the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, Black Workers for Justice, the NC Environmental Justice Network and others to urge support for a just recovery.

Members of Unifor Local 597, who have been locked out by their employer for 21 months, have secured an agreement with their employer to go to binding arbitration to resolve the lockout.
This morning, hundreds of members of our Canadian partner union Unifor blockaded D-J Composites in Gander, Newfoundland, where 30 Unifor members have been locked out for 646 days by their Kansas-based employer.

Detailed preparation and refusal to back down helped Local 1008 win 54 months’ worth of back wages for three UE members who had been misclassified.
Local 1008 members Duy Nguyen, Ho Tran and Bridget Morrison had not been receiving the pay rate that they should have been, given that they work directly and communicate directly with officers of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
On Friday evening August 31, UE won a significant National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) election to defeat a corrupt company union among 650 Hallcon workers located in eight states. UE won the election with almost 75% of the mail ballot vote.
This spring and summer have been busy for UE Local 222, an amalgamated local which represents town and school board workers across the state of Connecticut.
