New Local 222 Contracts ’Cross Connecticut

May 7, 2022

Amalgamated UE Local 222’s Sublocal 37 negotiated a new three-year contract covering workers at the Norwich Housing Authority. Wages will increase three percent each year, and the health insurance contributions will remain at 18 percent for all three years of the contract. Pension contributions will increase half a percent for each year.

Members will continue to receive a stipend of nine hours of straight-time pay for each week they are on beeper duty, and will now receive one hour of pay at time-and-a-half when responding to a call.

The Sublocal 37 negotiating committee consisted of President Stephen Chiangi and Secretary-Treasurer Gregory Engel.

Meanwhile, Sublocal 10 negotiated a new three-year contract covering custodians for the Canton Board of Education. The new Sublocal 10 contract provides for a three-percent wage increase for each year of the contract, an additional floating holiday which can be used for Juneteenth day, and double-time for holidays instead of time-and-a-half.

Health insurance cost increases were held to half a percent for each year of the contract.

The Sublocal 10 negotiating committee consisted of President Jimmy Varasconi and Vice President Andrea Zittoun.

Both sublocals were assisted by Field Organizer Sherry Bryant.

This article originally identified Sublocal 10 members as dispatchers for the Town of Canton. We regret the error.
