Voters Choose Obama and Reject the McCain-Bush Program

November 4, 2008
Voters from coast-to-coast came out in massive numbers on November 4 to elect Democrat Barack Obama as our nation’s first African-American President, and Joe Biden as our next Vice President.  Despite frantic and desperate last-ditch McCain campaign attempts to confuse and inflame voters -- or derail their ability to cast ballots -- there was no stopping the Obama-Biden momentum for change.

Commenting on the election results, UE General Secretary-Treasurer Bruce Klipple said, “This is a great day for working people in our country, and even around the world.  Voters have loudly rejected the corrupt and disastrous McCain - Bush program of economic decay, corporate crime and bailouts, endless war and broken budgets.  Voters have also triumphed over the lingering legacy of racism in our country by selecting Barack Obama as the most capable candidate to confront our many crises as we move forward.”

“I want to thank all of the UE members who did their part during this long election season, and who helped to make progress in a number of Congressional and state level elections around the country.  Our UE activists were motivated by the need to address the severe crises facing our communities; the loss of good jobs, our housing crisis, the healthcare and pension disasters, and the need to restore the right to organize being among them.  We were also inspired by the many thousands of Obama volunteers who worked feverishly to educate and mobilize voters.  It is entirely appropriate that we reflect on this historic moment, and then begin to prepare for the many battles to come.”, said Klipple.
