How Much Have Republican Attacks Cost Wisconsin? Report Surveys the Damage

February 17, 2012

The radical attacks on unions launched a year ago by Wisconsin's Republican Governor Scott Walker, at the direction of his corporate sponsors, have come at a high cost to working people. An important report issued by the Wisconsin AFL-CIO surveys the damage. It's titled "Losses to Working Families Under Governor Walker," and you can download the report here.

The study is a breathtaking chronicle of one front in what UE has called "a war on the working class," and helps explain why well over one million Wisconsinites signed petitions to remove Walker through the recall process. The statewide "Reclaim Wisconsin Tour" now underway is building further momentum For the recall campaign. Wisconsin members can check the tour schedule here.

Wisconsin is continuing to lose good jobs. Collective bargaining for public sector workers has been abolished and union dues check-off banned. Another result of Walker's attacks: the average local and state employee is now paying an additional $3,000 per year for healthcare. While working people suffer, Walker is continuing to push for more tax giveaways to corporations and the rich.

UE members should read this report and learn about the damage done by anti-labor policies in Wisconsin. This should motivate all of us to fight even harder to resist the next round of anti-worker assaults.
