UE Site Voted "Labor Website of the Year"

February 25, 2009

UE’s website has been voted “Labour Website of the Year,” by users of LabourStart, the global labor news site based in Britain.

LabourStart has conducted the competition every year since 1997. Trade union websites from around the world compete and individual union members vote online to choose is the very best union website. This year’s winner was announced on February 11.

Readers of LabourStart nominate their favorite sites, and this year there were 170 nominees. LabourStart’s volunteer correspondents then vote to narrow the list down to 12 finalists. And then all readers choose among the finalists.

Emerging as the best among 170 nominees is pretty tough competition, especially when compare it to some other championships. The winner of the Super Bowl emerges at the top of the heap among 32 NFL teams. NCAA March Madness starts with 64 basketball teams, eventually winnowed down to the Final Four and then the winner. And there are just five nominees competing for the Oscar for Best Motion Picture of the Year.

Congratulations to UE’s webmaster Rick Peduzzi for this important recognition of his excellent work. Our union receives this honor just weeks after The Nation magazine named UE the “Most Valuable Union” in its list of “Most Valuable Progressives of 2008.”

LabourStart is an online news service of the international labor movement. Founded in March 1998, it distributes news both from its own website and also through a news syndication service used by over 700 trade union websites around the world.
