UE's Armando Robles Joins Wisconsin Capitol Occupation, Featured on Michael Moore's Website

February 28, 2011

An article on Michael Moore's website reports on one participant in the worker occupation of the Wisconsin state capitol. Armando Robles, president of UE Local 1110 in Chicago and one of the leaders of the worker occupation of Republic Windows and Doors in December 2008, was in Madison, Wisconsin over the weekend -- participating in an even bigger worker occupation, that of the Wisconsin capitol building.

Like UE members from around Wisconsin who have over the past two weeks streamed into Madison to join in the historic struggle preserve worker rights, Armando crossed the state line to join this battle. He spoke at a giant rally and –  appropriately for a leader of the most prominent and successful plant occupation in recent U.S. labor history – he slept in the capitol rotunda as part of the reclaiming of the Wisconsin “people’s house” by the people.

On Monday, Feb. 28, Moore's site featured Armando's role in Madison as its top front-page story. You ran still read the story, which was written by labor journalist Mike Elk, son of UE International Representative Gene Elk.
