Keeping Track of the Battles to Defend Working People Via the Web

April 20, 2011

With Republican attacks on working people underway now in all 50 states, keeping track of the latest news is a challenge. Below are several key web pages that have provided invaluable help as working people seek information on the rapidly changing situation.

For starters, keep visiting the UE web page for breaking news and information about the ongoing battles, and for reports about fellow UE members in who have gone into action. Follow the action on the UE Facebook page also.

Wisconsin was the starting point of the Republican attacks on working people, in early February of this year. The Wisconsin AFL-CIO has done a fine job of rallying all union families to action.
Their blog page contains the most current up-to-date info also.

Ohio closely followed when Republican politicians launched their attacks just days after the start of the battle in Wisconsin. Protect Ohio Families follows the ongoing battle. See the Stand Up for Ohio Facebook pages also.

The national Jobs with Justice (JwJ)  organization -- of which UE has been a member from the start more than 25 years ago -- has helped to mobilize working people all across the country.
Be sure to look for a local JwJ group in your area. The JwJ blog includes additional useful info.

Labor Notes is a monthly pro-worker magazine and web page which has done a great job of getting the truth out about the attacks on labor and labor's fightback. See the Labor Notes blog also.

Working In These Times is a web page that features detailed reports from the various battlegrounds.

UE is a member of Public Services International (PSI), an international union network uniting 650 public service unions in 148 countries with more than 20 million members.

The national AFL-CIO web page section "States of Denial" features detailed info on the escalating battles across the country against workers.

Find your local, state, and national lawmakers using the "Be Heard" link to Congress.org web site on the Political Action Section of the UE web page. You can't fight back if you don't know who your elected officials are. Use this handy "Be Heard" tool in the right column to identify them for both yourself and your co-workers.
