Tomorrow, April 25, the Keystone Research Center, in partnership with UE; the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; and Senator Bob Casey's office, will release a new research paper highlighting the exciting findings of a new study conducted by the PERI institute. This study has calculated the employment impacts of “green locomotive” manufacturing at the Erie, PA Wabtec plant, both in Erie County and the wider Pennsylvania economy.

There are about 26,000 old locomotives in the United States that are below current environmental standards — they need to be replaced or remanufactured. Now is the time to ensure that the work to make our rail system cleaner and safer is done by union workers. We have the opportunity to create tremendous job growth as well as other positive economic impacts in the region by building Green Locomotives at the Wabtec facility in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Speakers include:
Gregor Semieniuk, Assistant Research Professor, Political Economy Research Institute (PERI)
Stephen Herzenberg, Keystone Research Center Executive Director / ReImagine Appalachia Co-Director
Carl Rosen, General President, United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE)
Scott Slawson, UE Local 506 President
Kyle Hannon, Regional Manager, Senator Bob Casey
