Local 248 Wins Wage Increase, Protections from Overwork

June 11, 2025

Members of UE Local 248 who work as cafeteria workers and custodians for the Old Rochester Regional School District won a 10.5 percent wage increase over the life of their new four-year contract. Members will receive 2.75 percent raises the first and second year and 2.5 percent in the third and fourth year. They also won protections against overwork. When a substitute cannot be provided for the cafeteria, each person working will get a two dollar increase for the time worked.

The members also won an insurance premium payment holiday increase. Any union steward who attends a necessary meeting will be able to do so without loss of pay. The members will also see an increase of days that can be added to the sick bank and improvements to sick time compensation. The sublocal also won the ability for custodial workers to take half a day for Christmas eve and permanent meeting space for the sublocal to meet and store a filing cabinet.

The negotiating committee consisted of President Rachel Lynch, Vice President Kathy Dellus, Shop Steward Angela Weiss, Len Perrry, and Mike Bauer. They were assisted by International Representative Sherry Bryant.
