On April 30, nearly two dozen members of UE Locals 228 and 728 participated in a member-led steward/organizer workshop. Now over halfway through their hard fought one-year contracts, officers and stewards of both locals continue to emphasize the power of aggressive struggle rather than relying solely on the grievance process.
Recalling her experience following the workshop, Local 228 President Jane Shepard-O'Connor said “I always appreciate team building with 728. It's so important for us to connect. Even though we work for the same company, we're in different buildings and different states. It just goes to show what we can do working together. We have a lot in common. We scare the company and that’s always my goal.”
Members have committed to continuing joint organizing efforts leading into bargaining new contracts this summer.
